 “I feel highly honored for my election as a Fellow of the Core Academy in the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences. In my career, I have been mainly involved in research and teaching in the main area of power electronics and its applications in energy systems. My main research contributions are the invention of transistor ac switch, adaptive hysteresis band current control, soft switched high-frequency link power conversion, MPPT control algorithm in PV systems, pioneering of microprocessor/DSP control, and AI-based power electronic systems control.  I have published more than two hundred papers and hold 21 US Patents. I have written/edited and published eight books. I have consulted within the US National Science Foundation, Electric Power Research Institute, USDA, Research Triangle Institute, GE-CRD, Bendix Corporation, Fuji Electric, Ansaldo, General Dynamics, Lutron Electronics, PCI Ozone Corporation, American Superconductors, Emerson Electric, Kolmorgen Corporation, Delco Remy, etc. I have promoted power electronics globally through wide extensive scale seminars, tutorials, keynote addresses, books, and invited presentations”

Fields of Scholarship and Research Interests

Power Electronics and Motor Drives

Prof. Bose and his associates have been responsible for many pioneering research contributions. He was the principal engineer for microcomputer control of electric and hybrid vehicle projects in GE-CRD which were sponsored by US Department of Energy. Control of modern electric and hybrid cars is mainly based on his research. He is also a pioneer in AI applications in power electronics. First time, his books incorporated chapters on ES, fuzzy and neural network control of power electronic systems. He invented the transistor ac switch which is the principal element in modern matrix converters. The other important contributions are adaptive hysteresis band PWM, MPPT control of PV system, high frequency resonant and non-resonant link power conversion, etc.
