Fields of Scholarship and Research Interests

Research areas of Prof. Endre Pap include aggregation operators (triangular norms, copulas), artificial intelligence, fuzzy systems, decision theory, functional analysis, and partial differential equations. He is recognized as one of the pioneers of the theory of non-additive measures and corresponding integrals. Among the earliest international monographs devoted to this field is his book Null-Additive Set Functions (Kluwer, now Springer, Dordrecht, 1995), complemented by numerous scientific papers published in leading international journals.

He is also the editor of the monumental Handbook of Measure Theory I, II (Elsevier, 2002, 1636 pages). Over his career, he has published more than 400 scientific papers and 24 books, accumulating over 19,000 citations (h-index 52). Prof. Pap has been included in Stanford University’s list of the world’s top 2% of scientists across all disciplines, in both categories: for his lifetime scientific contributions and for his contributions during the most recent year.

He has contributed to the Encyclopaedia of Mathematics (Kluwer, now Springer), and the well-known Pap Adjoint Theorem bears his name. He serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals, including Fuzzy Sets and Systems (Elsevier, area editor), Soft Computing (Springer, editor), YUJOR, Tatra Mountains Mathematical Publications, Panoeconomicus, Journal of Nonlinear Science and Its Application, and Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence. He is also a reviewer for major reference journals such as Mathematical Reviews and Zentralblatt für Mathematik, as well as approximately 50 other international journals.

Prof. Pap has served as principal investigator on numerous scientific projects, including those supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia; bilateral projects with France and Slovakia; and projects funded by the Provincial Secretariat for Science of Vojvodina. He was also the principal investigator of the artificial intelligence project ATLAS and the crAIRer project, both supported by the Science Fund of Serbia.

Honors, Awards and Other Membership

He is a member of the European Academy of Sciences (Belgium) since 2004.

He is a Member of the Vojvodina Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2004.

For his scientific work, he received the October prize of the city of Novi Sad (Serbia) for 2003.

Fellow of Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association, aaia-ai.org.

He contributed to raising the quality of higher education since he was a member of the Commission for Accreditation and Quality Control of Serbia from 2006 to 2014 and its president since 2013 (when the Commission became a permanent member of ENQA).

He was a member of the National Council for Higher Education of Serbia from 2014 to 2018.

He is a member of the American Mathematical Society (AMS).

Member of the Austrian Society of Mathematicians.

Acceptance letter

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm glad I can address you. First, I want to thank you for honor related the nomination by Core Academy, which I accept with a pleasure. It is very important to connect scientists all over the world, what Core Academy is doing, in the effort to manage Science, especially Artificial Intelligence to the benefit of a better life. I shall put my work and knowledge into AI in a more explainable style, named XAI. There are important mathematical tools for this purpose.

Thank you once more for the given honor to me.

Endre Pap
