Professor Azzedine Boukerche is a distinguished computer scientist whose work has made major contributions to wireless and mobile networking, distributed and parallel systems, large-scale simulation, and intelligent vehicular and transportation networks. Over a long international career, he has helped shape research at the intersection of communication protocols, mobile computing, sensor systems, and simulation-based infrastructures, with particular influence on the development of next-generation intelligent transportation and smart-city technologies.
His research has extended from the theoretical design and performance evaluation of distributed and wireless systems to practical and interdisciplinary applications in autonomous and connected vehicles, disaster-management systems, mobile edge and fog computing, and urban digital infrastructures. Official descriptions of his Canada Research Chair program emphasize the significance of his work for computation-intensive and data-intensive environments, including distributed simulation, smart transportation, emergency-response systems, and smart cities.
