Fields of Scholarship and Research Interests
Molecular Biology; Human Genetics; Population Genetics; Genomic Diversity; Forensic DNA Science; Medical Genetics; Molecular Epidemiology
Professor Sudoyo’s scholarship centers on the genetic diversity of human populations in Indonesia and the wider region, with particular attention to mitochondrial DNA, genomic variation, population history, and the biological foundations of disease. Her research has helped illuminate the genetic structure and historical formation of Indonesian and Southeast Asian populations, while also contributing to broader discussions of migration, admixture, and human diversity across island and archipelagic settings. A second major strand of her work lies in forensic genetics.
She played an important role in establishing DNA-based forensic capacity in Indonesia and in developing the institutional foundations for forensic DNA analysis at the Eijkman Institute. This work brought molecular science into direct relation with public need, judicial process, and national security, and helped make forensic genetics a more firmly established field in Indonesia. Her research has also extended into infectious disease, biosafety, and the public-health uses of molecular biology. Across these areas, her career has combined laboratory science, institution-building, scientific leadership, and public service in an especially distinctive way.
