Fields of Scholarship and Research Interests

Ph.D. in physical chemistry, the California Institute of Technology (CIT), USA.

He works in the area of theoretical chemistry, where, according to him, "the limit is your imagination", due to the versatility of the field. His lines of research are: atomic and molecular structure, atomic and molecular spectroscopy, molecular modeling, development of new computational methods and chemical bond theory.

Commander of the National Order of Scientific Merit (2005), Walter Baptist Mors Medal of the Brazilian Chemical Society (2011), Simão Mathias Medal of the Brazilian Chemical Society (2005), Augusto Araújo Lopes Zamith Medal of the UFRJ Chemistry Institute (2002), Scientists of Our State Award of the Rio de Janeiro State Department of Science and Technology (1999). Coordinator of the Chemistry CA of the CNPq (1993-1995). Coordinator of the Nucleus of Excellence (PRONEX) in Hydrocarbon Functionalization (1999- ), Coordinator of the Surface Phenomena and Catalysis sub-area of FAPERJ's Virtual Institute for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Coordinator of UFRJ in Petrobrás' N&N Thematic Network. Member of the Scientific Board of the World Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists (WATOC).
